September is Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness about prostate cancer and the importance of early detection. Prostate cancer continues to impact thousands of families across Canada, with an estimated 29,300 new cases in 2026, up from 27,900 cases in 2024, and approximately 5,300 deaths in 2026, compared to 5,000 deaths in 2024.

Study synopsis:

Research That Improves Men's Lives

The study objective is to advance the gendered dimensions of men’s post- prostatectomy experiences using narrative methodologies by integrating men’s narratives and storytelling methods to identify and describe post-prostatectomy experiences related to mental health, intimate partner relationships, peer support, and using healthcare services. These insights have the potential to contribute to the development of targeted, gender-responsive interventions to support the emotional and relational well-being of men and their intimate partners post-prostatectomy.
