About The Walnut Foundation

Founded in 2007 by Dr. Winston Isaac and Simon Samuel, The Walnut Foundation is a grassroots organization dedicated to improving the health and well-being of Black men, their families, and communities. We provide a supportive space for open discussions, advocacy, and resources to address prostate cancer and other chronic diseases that disproportionately affect men.

What Our Participants Say

"My diagnosis came on the back of nothing. No symptoms, no inclination. Through my church group, we heard The Walnut Foundation had a clinic. I remembered I hadn’t done a PSA for a number of years, so I went. The numbers were off. We did blood tests again, and the numbers were higher...In the presence of my medical practitioner, I was calm, but inside was a different story. After thinking about my loved ones, the people that care about me and the people I care about, I said, ok this is just another thing to deal with, and I’m going to walk this walk."

Renford

"I met my partner after his [prostate cancer] diagnosis and surgery. I wasn’t there for the initial decisions. I came in when the next step—radiation—was on the table. We talked. He asked what I thought, and though the choice was his, being included mattered. The Walnut Foundation became part of my education. There are spaces for men with prostate cancer, which is great, but partners and caregivers need space too. That’s why this matters."

Carlotta

"The statistics are alarming, but knowledge and early action can save lives. That’s why we’re calling on the community to walk with us figuratively and literally in the fight against prostate cancer. "

Anthony Henry, President, The Walnut Foundation

"I know firsthand how vital early detection is. When I was diagnosed, I had little to no symptoms and maybe worst – I was unaware of what the actual symptoms were, so it was just a routine screening that likely saved my life. That is why I am passionate about raising awareness, especially for Black men who are at greater risk. If sharing my story encourages even one person to get checked, it’s worth it. Let’s walk this path together and take charge of our health."
